The human teeth function to mechanically break down food by cutting and crushing them in preparation for swallowing and digesting. Humans have four types of teeth: incisors, canines, premolars, and molars, each with a specific function. The incisors cut the food, the canines tear the food and the molars and premolars crush the food. The roots of teeth are embedded in the Teeth are made of multiple tissues of varying density and hardness.  Plaque can build up quickly on the teeth of seniors, especially if oral hygiene is neglected, and lead to toothe decay and gum disease. To maintian good oral health, it is important for all individuals, regardless of age to brush at least twice a day.
Oral health is important and often overlooked as we age.



  • Brush twice daily
  • Floss often
  • Eat a well balanced diet
  • Quit smoking
  • Visit a dentist twice a year
